Last week, I had the wonderful opportunity to see an early showing of “The Fall Guy” in McConomy Auditorium ahead of its release in theaters on May 3. Despite a midnight deadline for a 10-page paper looming large over my head, I threw my worries to the wind and went to watch. Let me tell you: It was the best decision I’ve made in a long time.

“The Fall Guy” follows stuntman (a.k.a. fall guy) Colt Seavers as he tries to juggle making a movie, rekindling a romance, and tracking down his movie star counterpart. As things get more and more complicated, our intrepid fall guy doubles down and does what he has to do to complete all three of his tasks.

You guys… this movie was so good.

Colt was sooooo poor little meow meow. He was scruffy, he was sweaty, and he was a little pathetic. Just my type. I loved it.

Ryan Gosling was so perfect — I could feel the Kenergy radiating from his frosted tips as he listened sadly to Taylor Swift. It was magical. He and Emily Blunt as Jody (Colt’s love interest and director of the movie he’s working on) had such good chemistry. It wasn’t some crazy intense “Titanic” love-at-first-sight thing, but I thought that they did a great job of depicting a fun, flirty relationship between two ridiculous people.

There was also a great friendship between Colt and Dan, played by Winston Duke. The whole cast just came together so well to make some really excellent moments.

The plot was absolutely ridiculous, in the best way possible. With as few spoilers as possible, I’ll give some highlights: Unicorns. A dog (who remains unharmed — fear not). Awesome fight scenes. Beating up aliens. Karaoke. The list goes on. Have I mentioned that I really enjoyed this movie? Add in the fact that it knows PRECISELY what it is (a ridiculous film constantly referencing other films), and you’ve got something that appears to have been made in a lab specifically for me.

Just a brief soundtrack mention on this one; it BANGS SO HARD. Lots of Kiss “I Was Made for Loving You” renditions. Perfect. Immaculate. No notes.

Just… go see this movie. It’s silly, it’s funny, it’s really cute at times, and it’s an awesome way to take a break from studying for finals, doing final projects, and packing up your dorm. It was absolutely worth the three hours of grinding on my paper that I missed out on. There is so much going on in this movie that I didn’t touch on (I want you to be surprised at the surprising moments and laugh at the laughing moments!), but it is delightful at every single turn.

I think I’ll have to give “The Fall Guy” a strong rating of “I was made for loving you” out of “Miami Vice.” Don’t worry — that’ll make sense after you watch the movie.
